    The programme is offered over a duration of 12 Months (1 Year) The classes are offered during the week on full time/ online and part time basis on Saturday. You will be placed within our partner organisations for your practical training and work integrated learning, or you can choose an accredited facility of your own, the College has the right to approve such facility at its own discretion.

  • Description

    A home-based carer will be able to provide supervised care and support to patients and household members in the home, in order to promote, restore and maintain a person’s comfort, function, spiritual wellbeing and physical health including care towards a dignified death. The work of a home-based carer focusses on therapeutic work (to make better), rehabilitative work (to restore to health), long-term maintenance (to care for over a long time) and palliative care (for those with life-limiting conditions). All these tasks require time and commitment and imply a longer-term relationship with clients/patients.

    Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

    1. Provide holistic care and support to patient and household members.
    2. Communicate effectively with patients and household members.
    3. Operate effectively and efficiently within a multi-disciplinary team context.
    4. Recognise when to refer, and who to refer to whom, and why.
    5. Complete a generic guideline report/template on patient care.

  • Admission requirements

    Learners enrolling to do the part qualification (NQF2) must have: A qualification at NQF 2 or Grade 10 schooling.

  • Textbooks and Log- Books

    Prescribed textbooks and logbooks are provided by the college. Students will receive printed versions of the study guides for this programmes. All prescribed books and log-books fees are included in tuition fee.

  • Assessments and Certification

    Internal assessment for Knowledge modules will be ongoing, including practical and work integrated learning experience. External Assessment: Student will write a compulsory external examination at the end of the course. On successful completion of the programme, the student will receive an Occupational Certificate in Home Based Personal Care Worker, Level 3 , from Quality Council For Trades & Occupations (QCTO).

    a) 1x Certified ID copy of student
    b) 1x Certified ID Copy of Parent/Guardian/sponsor
    c) Latest School Results e.g. Matric Certificate, Statement of results etc.
    d) Proof of residence
    e) 2x reams copy paper (500 sheets each)
